I'm a life-long Oregonian who can't help but smile at the smell of rain on wet pavement. (Apparently there's a word for this: petrichor.) After living in Oregon for over 22 years, I explored Michigan for a couple years and then returned back to my Oregon roots in the Silicon Forest to begin my professional career.
From 2019-2021, I attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI on merit scholarship to earn my M.S. degree from the School of Information (UMSI). My focus was on UX/UI Engineering, which means I wrote code while also taking classes and working with clients to develop foundational UX research and design skills.
Prior to attending grad school, I graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Computer Science from Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR, a small liberal arts university in the suburbs of Portland.
Throughout my education, I gained software engineering experience at three summer internships spanning three different teams, two different companies, and dozens of memorable skills and experiences in network software engineering, software architecture, full-stack application development, and technical program management. During my graduate degree, I also worked on semester and year-long UX consulting projects at large companies and non-profits organizations, including Amcor, Human Rights First, and the Southwest Florida Community Foundation (Collaboratory).
I care about learning how to better diversify tech, understand the human mind, and help other people. Approaching software development from a user-centered perspective often addresses all of the above! I'm most interested in tying my interests together to create more accessible, inclusive, and ethical software and systems.
For over three years, I had the pleasure of contributing as a front-end developer to the Cloud Manager platform, which is an open source web UI for the Linode API. Most recently, I decided to join a startup called HOPPR to work on solving problems in the healthcare space with a small, passionate team.
Outside of coding, I am a lover of erasable pens, cats, trivia, all kinds of craft projects, rock climbing, and chai tea lattes. I also love reading and writing. When I am not at work programming, I'm likely volunteering at the public library, curled up in a chair beside my (many) house plants with a book, or taking writing classes at the local community college.
